US renewables developer Recurrent Energy LLC, owned by Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ), will provide 150 MW/600 MWh of energy storage to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) under a new 15-year resource adequacy agreement.

The new job is tied to the second phase of the 350-MW/1,400-MWh Crimson battery energy storage project in California that is to start operations next summer. Recurrent Energy is also the one to deliver Phase 1 of 200 MW/800 MWh under a long-term contract with Southern California Edison.

The company explained in a statement that both contracts are stand-alone storage projects and are part of reliability procurements directed by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

“It is becoming increasingly important to be able to send energy to the grid during heatwaves and other peak demand events,” said Shawn Qu, chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar, adding that the company is stepping up all its development processes to make sure it reaches the target commercial operation date of summer 2022.
