
‘Renewable energy gaining importance’
Workshop dwells on emerging trends
Former Director of IEEE Region 10 (Asia Pacific nations) K. Ramakrishna said on Friday that renewable energy sources were gaining importance in view of the growing energy demand.
Mr. Ramakrishna spoke about the challenges in the renewable energy sources sector and their integration at the inaugural session of a two-day national-level workshop on “renewable energy systems and trends” (REST-2017) organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the G. Pulla Reddy Engineering College here.
He urged the college to strengthen the student branch of IEEE on the campus.
Solar applications
Assistant manager of Argo Solar Private Limited at Hyderabad I.N. Sravani explained the practical aspects of a solar photo voltaic plant.
Among the other speakers, M.M. Babu Narayan spoke about smart cities and renewable integration and demand response in smart grids, N. Kumarappan on cuckoo search algorithm-based power dispatch of micro-grid system, N. Ammasai Gounden on standalone and grid connected renewable energy systems with case studies, G. Siva Kumar on voltage quality improvement by DVR in grid connected wind generation and the maximum power point tracking of photo voltaic system by boost converter and Y. Pradeep Kumar on cost benefit analysis of solar rooftop system and its application in smart cities.
Stressing the importance of renewable energy, in charge principal of the engineering college Y.V. Mohan Reddy exhorted the participants to interact with the resource persons.
