Roof Top Solar Plant at Durgapur Steel Plant Inaugurated
Kolkata: Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) has added a new feather to its cap. For producing Eco-friendly “Green Steel” and “Green Energy” the plant has installed a “Roof Top Solar Plant” inside the plant premises. BP Singh, ED (Works), DSP inaugurated the 60KWp capacity Grid Connected Roof Top Solar Plant at ED (Works) building today in presence of senior officials and employees of DSP.
DSP is committed to improving standards of performance in the areas of environment, energy etc. as an integral part of its business philosophy and values. Union Ministry of New Renewable Energy (MNRE) had brought out “Achievement Linked Incentive Scheme ” to encourage the installation of Grid Connected Roof Top Solar Plants.
(GCRT) on Government & Central PSU (CPSU) Buildings. As per the scheme, CPSUs opting for installation of Rooftop Solar Plants are required to pay 75% of the project cost and the balance 25% of the CAPEX is to be paid by the Union Government.
Accordingly, Steel Authority of India limited or SAIL has been allocated a capacity of 6.195 MWp Roof Top Solar Plant, out of which DSP has been allocated with the capacity of 1 MWp Roof Top Solar Plant which has been to be installed on the top of 10 official buildings of DSP across different locations inside and outside the plant including DSP Main Hospital.
The Project has been executed by the Power Management Department on behalf of DSP. It may be noted that the CGRT Solar Plant has been commissioned for the first time in the Power Distribution Network of DSP and is a major step towards Green Energy & Environment-friendly initiative.
