Sanatan Dharam College goes the green way, gets 110KW solar power plant
Sanatan Dharam College (Lahore), Ambala Cantonment, on Monday celebrated its annual convocation and prize distribution function. Haryana health minister Anil Vij was the chief guest on the occasion.
During his visit to the college, Vij inaugurated the 110KW solar power plant that will produce 1.7 lakh units of electricity per year making the college self-sufficient in power sector. On the occasion, the minister announced Rs 20 lakh for the college and praised it for success in every field. The college has been accredited ‘A+ Grade’ with CGPA of 3.51 out of 4 by the NAAC team of Bengaluru.

Principal Dr Rajinder Singh read out the annual report of the college and gave away 450 degrees to postgraduates and graduates from science, commerce and arts streams, including 50 pending degrees. A total of 500 degrees were awarded to the students, of which 73 were awarded postgraduate degrees, 377 undergraduate degrees and 50-old students were given pending degrees from sessions of 1976 – 2016.
In his message, Vij expressed happiness that now universities and colleges of Haryana at their convocation programmes were awarding degrees as per indigenous culture and customs of India. Vij said, “In the ancient times, our ancestors were considered as vishwa gurus as we were on top in case of study and people from all over the world used to visit our places to learn from our gurus.”
The college authorities had distributed special dresses to the students for the ceremony to promote the Indian culture while conducting the convocation programmes.
Later in the day annual prize distribution function was also held in the college auditorium. Institute’s public relation officer Dr. Naveen Gulati said that the chief guest on the occasion was Lt. Gen. Alok Singh Kler (VSM). The students were awarded 498 prizes for academics, sports, cultural and other activities. Three faculty members of the college were also felicitated for completing their PhDs. President of the college managing committee B K Soni honoured the guests by presenting mementos.
