Scatec Solar’s production capacity in Jordan reaches 43 MW with the third solar plant in commercial operation
Scatec Solar’s third solar plant in Jordan has now reached commercial operation (COD) increasing the total production capacity in Jordan to 43 MW. Built under the Jordanian Renewable Energy Program, the 22 MW solar plant is developed by Scatec Solar and its local partner European Jordanian Renewable Energy (EJRE). Scatec Solar owns 50.1% of the project company, while EJRE holds 49.9%.
The plant is built on an area of approximately 51 hectares, which is equivalent to about 95 football fields. Situated about 225 km south of the capital city Amman, the plant will produce electricity in excess of 52,000 MWh annually. The plant is connected to a substation built and controlled by the state utility, NEPCO, with whom Scatec Solar has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
The clean energy produced by the solar plant will avoid 33,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year and serve the electricity need of about 10,000 households annually.
