SCHMID inaugurates new Technology and Competence Center
The World of Automation in the new Technology and Competence Center: Experts from the SCHMID Group as well as from Siemens, Pepperl + Fuchs and Schunk presented the latest trends at the SCHMID Technology Days
Within the scope of this year’s Technology Days the SCHMID Group inaugurated its new Technology and Competence Center in Niedereschach, Germany. On a surface of 180 m² customers experience the World of Automation, learn the latest insights on the topic of SmartFactory and get to know the intelligent transport and intralogistics system montrac® in detail. In addition to some 650 working hours, the SCHMID Group invested more than 240,000 EUR in the realization of this new center, which is used not only for presentation purposes but also for training and customer tests.
The World of Automation – that was the motto of the SCHMID Technology Days which took place in Niedereschach last week. And indeed, SCHMID succeeded in creating a World of Automation: Users of the montrac® system – which can be found practically everywhere from the automotive sector to medical technology – exchanged information and were given real expert and insider knowledge from the guest speakers about the latest trends in automation. Siemens presented its strategy for industrial digitization. In addition to the software it is also important to have the suitable sensor technology which can scan the environment of transport and production systems in 3D and decisively contributes to the safety of the systems. Pepperl + Fuchs, the development partner of the SCHMID Group, presented the latest developments in an exciting lecture. Schunk, world market leader for clamping technology and gripping systems, described how industry 4.0 is implemented in gripping technology for robots and how Schunk interprets the World of Automation and will shape it in the future.
As a pioneer in automation SCHMID also presented concept approaches using the latest technology. With a virtual reality simulation, an installation in Finland was visited and the montrac® transport system could be inspected live on site – without having to leave the lecture room. There, montrac® transports pharmaceuticals, infusions and blood bags in a hospital. With virtual reality the project planning could become easier and more demonstrative in the future. Optimization potentials could be identified earlier. At the same time, SCHMID is intensively working on technological developments of the montrac® transport system. For example, the shuttles now reach a maximum speed of up to 85 m/min, they transport significantly higher loads and considerably reduce the throughput times due to new sensor technology.
In addition to customers, SCHMID also invited companies of the ‘INNONET Plastic’ network to participate in its Technology Days. The montrac® transport system has already been used frequently in the plastics industry, especially for the cycle-optimized linking of injection molding machines and their connection to assembly stations or storage systems
