With the announcement to hike property tax in all categories in South Delhi areas, the Standing Committee Chairman of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Friday presented its Budget for the next financial year. The Chairman, at his budget finalisation speech, ensured to improved civic services along with maintaining infrastructure.

“The SDMC is going to deploy 300 more safai karamcharis for better maintenance of the toilets and in the current financial year, 10 safai karamchari suvidha centres will be constructed in each zone. A dedicated effort is also being made to provide better sanitation services in hundred markets,” said Chairman Shailender Singh Monti.

As per the announcement, provision of 1 per cent increase in property tax for residential properties under categories C, D and E and 2 per cent in residential properties under categories A and B; 5 per cent increase in property tax for certain commercial properties under categories A to H viz guest houses, inns, lodges, PG houses, restaurants without bars or A/C, liquor shops and bars; has been made.

Besides this, rebate for timely payment upto June 30 has been reduced from 15 per cent to 10 per cent while rebate for senior citizens, physically handicapped, women reduced from 30 per cent to 20 per cent and the limit of covered space of property reduced from 200 sqm to 100 sqm has been made. The Corporation has also announced to withdraw 10 per cent rebate for DDA /CGHS flats upto 100 sqm and rebate for CGHS flats has reduced from 20 per cent to 10 per cent.

The Chairman said that two LED screens will be put up to make aware the citizens about the achievements and new initiatives of the SDMC. An MOU for a 3 MW Solar Energy Plant at a 15-acre vacant land at Ghummanhera Village under Najafgarh Zone is under consideration while an SPV will be set up jointly by the SDMC and PTC India wherein both parties will have 50-50 partnership. The expected Solar Energy Generation per year will be 43.80 lakh units.

“A bio-gas plant for recycling cattle-dung and kitchen waste will come up near Goyal Dairy under Najafgarh Zone to ensure disposal and management of 150 MT cattle-dung and kitchen waste everyday. The Four CNG cremation grounds are being set up at Subhash Nagar, Dwarka Sector-IV and Green Park Extention with as many as 32 Mokshda green pyres for cremation,” said the Chairman.
