SDMC TO BE FIRST CIVIC BODY TO GO GREEN ON ROAD
South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has claimed to be the first civic body in the country to replace its internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by e-vehicles. Union Minister for Power and Renewable Energy RK Singh launched the “National E-Mobility Programme” on Wednesday and handed over the key of the first e-Vehicle to SDMC Commissioner Dr Puneet Kumar Goel. The electric vehicles will also help in controlling pollution level in the city.
SDMC Commissioner Goel described this step of SDMC as driving into the future in the direction of developing clean Delhi and contribution in sustainable environment. “We have started the process of allotting these vehicles to the officer and will be on road in day or two,” he added.
“We are ushering in an era of clean, green and future-oriented technologies in Delhi. The e-cars are of sedan automatic type, fully air-conditioned with zero tail pipe emission. The new journey will result in a huge savings in the fuel consumption, maintenance and operating cost of the vehicles and reduction in CO2 emission and fast growing pollution level in the Capital city,” he added.
Goel said that the SDMC has created a robust supporting infrastructure by setting up charging infrastructure to ensure sustainable e-vehicles. “It has made functional 47 charging stations at various SDMC offices including Civic Centre. Twenty more charging stations will become operational in near future to meet the demand of charging with deployment of more e- vehicles in the city,” he said.
