Sembcorp awarded 82 MWp of solar contracts in Singapore
Renewables Now – Singapore-based utilities group Sembcorp Industries Ltd (SGX:U96) announced that it has been awarded contracts to build 82 MWp of solar arrays at home since January 2021.
The company secured a project to install rooftop solar systems totalling 60 MWp in the SolarNova tender launched by the Housing & Development Board (HDB), Singapore’s public housing authority, and government agency Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
Under this contract, Sembcorp is to build, own, operate and maintain grid-connected rooftop solar arrays installed across 1,154 HDB blocks and 46 government sites in the Asian city-state. The company estimates the 60 MWp of capacity would be enough to power some 16,000 four-room HDB flats for a year, it said.
The latest HDB/EDB contract represents the second time that Sempcorp wins a tender under the SolarNova programme, which is now targeting 540 MWp of solar installed on HDB blocks by 2030.
Since early this year, Sembcorp also secured other commercial solar projects with a combined capacity of 22.3 MWp. Among them is the SolarRoof Phase 2 project awarded by government agency JTC Corporation, which will entail the installation of 17.4 MWp of rooftop solar on 48 JTC buildings.
This project is due to be finalised in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The group’s solar portfolio in Singapore stands at about 362.3MWp of capacity in operation and under development, new awards included.
Sembcorp has over 3,200 MW of operating and developing renewables. This figure includes solar, wind and energy storage distributed between China, India, Singapore, the UK and Vietnam, the company added.
