SFD Inaugurates a Solar Energy Project to Develop the Education Sector in Pakistan
The project will provide clean energy to 1,240 schools and benefit 135,000 students.
Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malki inaugurated a solar energy project which will provide clean energy to 1,240 schools in Pakistan.
The project aims to develop and support the education sector in Pakistan and will benefit more than 135,000 Pakistani students a year. The government of Saudi Arabia is funding the project through a grant provided by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
The project is made possible by the collaboration between the SFD and the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and under the supervision of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The project will provide clean, sustainable, and renewable electricity in seven hard-to-reach areas in the south of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Commenting on the project, the Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malki said, “The Kingdom, through the SFD, is committed to working with the Pakistani government and international organization to support development projects across different sectors and support the country’s economic growth.
The SFD is working effectively to promote sustainable development in Pakistan and develop mechanisms that are on par with global practices to improve the living conditions for the local people.
The solar energy projectis one of the most significant initiatives funded by the Kingdom. The project seeks to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 for providing quality education and Goal 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
This project reflects Saudi Arabia’s interest in enhancing cooperation and solidarity with the Pakistani government and people. This project will help develop the education sector and improve the living condition of the Pakistani people.
Saudi Arabia, represented by the SFD has provided three grants, estimated at USD 333 million, to implement 23 projects. A total of 13 projects have been completed, and ten projects under implementation.
The SFD has also provided 21 loans estimated at USD 1.2 billion to support 21 projects. A total of 12 projects have been completed, and nine projects under implementation.
The SFD is one of the largest contributors to sustainable development aid. The Fund plays a crucial role in providing financial and technical assistance to develop projects across the world.
Since its establishment in 1975, SFD is committed to enhancing stability, prosperity and providing socio-economic support to developing countries, in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals.
