New Delhi: The share of renewable energy is increasing rapidly in the electricity mix in the country due to incentives given by the union government to the sector, Minister of State for New and Renewable R K Singh said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
The rate of growth had been fastest in the sector, second only to China. This year 500 MW had been added taking the total capacity to 68,000 MW. The target is to reach 175,000 MW by 2022, he said in reply to a question during the Question Hour.
In 2015-16 the share of renewable energy was 6.59 per cent in the electricity mix. This has gone up to 52.2 per cent in 2016-17.
