Shravanabelagola railway station in Hassan district, about 145 kilometers from Bengaluru, is expected to become the states first carbon-neutral station . The station has received twenty-four solar panels and is currently running off-grid .
Bengaluru: Shravanabelagola railway station in Hassan district, about 145 kilometers from Bengaluru, is expected to become the state’s first carbon-neutral station, according to officials from the South Western Railway (SWR).
This will be the first train station in the state under SWR to meet 100% energy demands.This is likely to happen in another 3-6 months and is our first step toward green stations across the division, according to E Vijaya, the head PRO of SWR (in-charge).7.9kWp solar panels have been installed at Shravanabelagola station, and the plant was operational on January 6.
In 3-6 months, it will be synchronized with the grid.Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Ltd (Cescom) has issued a net-gross metering license.The station has received twenty-four solar panels.The solar plant is capable of producing 5 units per day, and Cescom has given permission to synchronize it with the grid, which can produce up to 25 units per day.
The station has also been equipped with a 1kWp solar tree (weather-proof metal structure), which is interesting.Five HP solar cells have also been installed at the station.
