Although the state has successfully erected solar power plants with a combined capacity of 17,143 MW, only 3,326 MW have been used to serve the local people. About 23% of the solar energy generated by the state is used internally, while 77% is sold externally through power purchase agreements (PPAs) with private companies.

The state has also built wind energy facilities with a combined capacity of 5,193MW, however, according to him, a large amount of the electricity produced by these facilities was sold to private companies rather than used by the state.

The government had stated that farmers would receive 2,000 units of free electricity per month and increased the amount of free electricity from 50 to 100 units per month in the 2023–24 Budget.

“On the contrary, the government is burdening consumers with a fuel surcharge two to six times higher than the grant provided for 100 units of electricity. The fuel surcharge has been imposed on over 80 lakh state consumers” Said.

“From July to September 2022, the fuel surcharge was 45 paise per unit, and from October to December, it increased to 52 paise. Under the previous BJP government, the average rate was only 18 paise per unit,” Rathore said.

The BJP representative claimed that irregularities in coal import rates from Indonesia had previously been discovered and that a further seven paise per unit “Adani tax” was collected from 1.39 crore users in the state.

In the 2023–24 Budget, the government stated that farmers will receive 2,000 units of free electricity per month. Previously, the government had increased the amount of free electricity from 50 to 100 units each month.The government, on the other hand, is taxing consumers with a fuel cost that is two to six times greater than the grant offered for 100 units of electricity.

Over 80 lakh state consumers are now subject to the fuel surcharge.
