The company is relying heavily on its mid-size SUV Kushaq and the mid-size sedan Slavia to treble its sales in 2022.

Skoda Auto India will launch its first premium electric vehicle — the SUV Enyaq — in India next year. The company said it would not have any mass-market EV in the next three years.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Zac Hollis, brand director of Skoda Auto India, said: “We are not launching any EVs before 2025. For volumes, we need to localise. There will be no electric vehicles from Volkswagen Group unless there is charging infrastructure and cost-effective batteries.”

The company is relying heavily on its mid-size SUV Kushaq and the mid-size sedan Slavia to treble its sales in India in 2022. Already Kushaq contributes 60 per cent to its sales volume

Skoda has posted 130 per cent year-on-year growth. The company has sold 10,387 units in 2020 and 23,858 units in 2021. It has doubled its sales in rural areas, said Hollis.

The company has set a target of achieving 100,000 cars by 2025 with a 5 per cent market share. At present, it has a 2 per cent market share.

It also plans to be among the top 10 markets for Skoda Auto in India.
