Guwahati, Aug 30 (PTI) Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit today said that solar energy was considered to be the best option for meeting energy requirements of modern day life as it belongs to the renewable category. “With the disappearance of fossil fuels from the planet and their rising costs has forced countries to switch over to a sustainable energy source,” the Governor said after inaugurating a 30-KW grid interactive solar power plant under Renewable Energy Project at Raj Bhawan here. Solar energy is the only alternative energy as Sun is the biggest energy supplier and is fully capable of meeting the energy needs of earth in the distant future, he said. Purohit also asked officials to look into the possibility of providing LED-based solar lantern in the streets where there is no access to power. The renewable energy project at the Raj Bhawan was sanctioned to Assam Energy Development Agency (AEDA) Guwahati by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) Government of India under Special Area Demonstration Project Scheme.
