Bhopal: As part of ceaseless endeavours vis-a-vis promoting renewable energy, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath will lay the foundation stone on Friday for a 650- kW Rooftop Solar Energy Plant at the Central Police Training Academy that shall be supplied electricity at Rs 1.38 per unit, it was officially learnt.
The facility is being installed in cooperation with the Urja Vikas Nigam. Approximately 4,500 MW – which translates into about a fifth of the state’s total power – is being generated from solar, wind, biomass and small hydro projects.
During the past six months, various offices of the central and state government – including the Telephone Exchange and the airport – evinced interest in getting solar plants installed through the Renewable Energy Service Company model. A solar unit was set up in a record two months at the Khadi and Village Industries Board and an initiative taken to utilise such energy in government-managed medical colleges.
The Nigam completed the procedure necessary for an agreement. Similarly, preparations are over to run a water treatment plant beside VIP Road by solar power.
