Solar power-lit Bhat auditorium to open soon
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to open city’s biggest hall, Suresh Bhat Auditorium with a seating capacity of 2,000, soon. The auditorium will become the city’s first to be illuminated with solar power.
The standing committee headed by Sudhir Raut, on Monday, approved the proposal to set up solar power production system at the auditorium at a cost of Rs1.18 crore. The private firm, Sadique and Company, constructing the auditorium will set up the system.
Ruling party leader Dayashankar Tiwari said the plan was suggested by Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari. “The NMC will have to bear expenses on operation and maintenance of the auditorium. The major expense will be of power. Organizations using the hall on rental basis will have to pay the power bill. Charges will come down to a great extent if the total consumption is from solar power,” he said.
