Solarcentury confirmed as Number 1 EPC in UK solar market
Solar Power Portal’s countdown this week of the leading EPC companies has kept us in suspense. Today, we learned that Solarcentury has been ranked the top EPC company in the UK, and “by some margin”.Peter Sermon, CSO at Solarcentury comments, “We are incredibly proud of this recognition because it underscores the skill and dedication of our people, all of whom share Solarcentury’s mission to deliver high quality solar projects as a way to alleviate climate change. It signals to our customers both in the UK and international markets that we are an industry leader.”
Charting Solarcentury’s evolution since it was established in 1998, Solar Power Portal notes that “Solarcentury has been perhaps the most adaptable and flexible installer in the UK, maintaining a healthy output of small and large rooftops to add to solar farm builds.” These qualities have enabled Solarcentury to build more than 500MW of solar to date – roughly 5% of the UK’s entire capacity. Also recognised is Solarcentury’s work with local community energy groups – this experience has established Solarcentury as the “EPC-of-choice to various community projects”.Seb Berry, head of external affairs at Solarcentury explained to Solar Power Portal that “people and innovation” have been central to Solarcentury’s almost two decades in the industry. Further, he comments that Solarcentury expects to maintain EPC activity for the coming year and has a 1.2 ROC pipeline to pursue. Its commercial rooftop business is also expected to continue strong growth.
Discussing all top 20 EPC companies in the league table, Solar Power Portal analyst Finlay Colville comments, “perhaps the single attribute that can cover all the companies is one of perseverance, and working within a context of rapidly-changing policies and frequent deadlines.”
