MADRID, Spain :  Sonnedix, the global solar independent power producer (IPP) and Statkraft, Europe´s largest producer of renewable energy and leading PPA provider, have signed a 9.5-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

Sonnedix has already started suppling Statkraft with the green electricity from its newly acquired Sonnedix Galisteo PV plant, of 50MW of capacity. The solar PV plant is located in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura, in central-western Spain, and it is one of two operational solar plants acquired by the IPP at the end of 2021.

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix said: “This transaction is further testament to Sonnedix’s commitment to the Spanish market, as we continue playing an active role in pushing the energy transition forward. This is our second PPA signed with Statkraft in the past couple of years, and we look forward to continuing doing business with them in the near future.”

Simon Kornek, Statkraft’s Vice President Southern European Origination, said: “The agreement with Sonnedix allows us to increase our renewable portfolio in Spain, thereby also increasing our ability to drive the energy transition in the country, providing clean, affordable and indigenous energy to our industries.”

Sonnedix has a total controlled capacity of 7GW around the world, including a development pipeline of more than 4GW. Present in Spain since 2010, the company currently has over 1.6GW of utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects in operation, construction, or development stages in the country. Sonnedix continues actively looking for opportunities to further expand its global solar platform across OECD countries, through the acquisition and development of solar PV projects.

The renewable portfolio that Statkraft has to provide its customers in Spain and Portugal is already around 1.3 gigawatts, one of the largest in the Iberian market. It includes the production of wind and solar assets from different parts of the country.
