Sungrow joins 900-MW solar project in Dubai as inverter supplier
Chinese solar inverter maker Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) will supply its equipment for the 900-MW phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar complex in Dubai.
The company said it has singed an agreement with Shanghai Electric Group Co (SHA:601727), the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the fifth phase of the mega-project, to deliver its latest 1500V 6.25 MW turn-key solution.
The 900-MW portion has been developed by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power and Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC). The duo secured the project in a tender by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), offering a tariff of just USD 16.95 (EUR 14.29) per MWh.
Given the low off-take price and the need for a minimal levelised cost of energy (LCOE), Sungrow will supply an upgraded 1500V turn-key solution to meet the challenge, the company said.
The fifth phase is expected to become operational in the second quarter of 2021.
