Taiwan’s Wiwynn to buy solar power under PPA
Taiwanese cloud IT infrastructure company Wiwynn Corp (TPE: 6669) last week announced a power purchase agreement (PPA) with local renewables retailer Mr. Watt for electricity from a solar project.
Wiwynn is the first firm in the IT services industry in Taiwan to buy renewable energy after the country adopted the amended Electricity Act, which makes it possible for companies to directly buy power under a PPA.
Under the agreement, Wiwynn will buy power from a solar array in National Tainan Girl’s Senior High School, which becomes the first educational institution to sell renewable power to a company in the country.
Wiwynn plans to source at least 10% of the power at its Taipei headquarters from renewable energy from 2021, gradually increasing the amount and ratio.
