‘Tamil Nadu Govt to set up solar panels atop Chennai Corpn buildings”
Tamil Nadu government will setup solar panels atop Chennai Corporation buildings with the aim of tapping 88 lakh units of power potential.
Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani said an estimated 5.5 MW of power a day can be generated by installing solar panels atop these buildings.
“It has been estimated that a total of 88 lakh units of power can be generated annually from solar energy,” he said.
The scheme will be implemented at a cost of Rs 39 crore from the Chennai Corporation fund, he informed the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Further, wherever feasible, rooftop solar power systems would be installed in buildings owned by Corporations and Municipalities, he said.
Among others initiatives, he announced parks and underground drainage systems in different parts of the state.
