National: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company is a pioneer in the application of innovation and technology for the benefits to its consumers. In line with this commitment, Tata Power has become the first power utility in Mumbai to print Dynamic Bharat QR codes on its power supply bills for enabling its consumers to make payments conveniently.

Consumers, upon receipt of their bills, can now scan the QR code with any of their Mobile Banking Apps and pay without any hassle. The bill details including the amount to be paid will be displayed on the Mobile App and then the consumer can authorize the payment through his/her debit/credit card within a few seconds and his/her bill will be paid instantaneously.

Though this functionality of bill payments through Bharat QR code has been introduced in other utilities in the country however Tata Power is the First Power Utility in Mumbai to print the Dynamic Bharat QR codes on its power supply bills. Incidentally, Tata Power was the First Power Utility in India to launch Dynamic UPI-Linked QR codes on its power supply bills for bill payments in Mumbai. The option to pay through the Dynamic Bharat QR code or Dynamic UPI QR Code is already available on Tata Power’s customer web portal i.e. cp.tatapower.com.

The basic differentiator between the Bharat QR payment functionality and the UPI linked QR code payment functionality (through UPI enabled Mobile Banking Apps) is that, in case of Bharat QR, payments can be authorized through Debit/ Credit Card and in case of UPI linked QR, payments can be authorized through the Bank Accounts. However, in both the cases, the consumer details such as consumer number and bill number will be auto captured and post transaction a system generated unique transaction receipt for consumer will be available instantly.

Tata Power Consumers in Mumbai can pay their electricity bills through Government of India initiated avenues such as Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) App, Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), Dynamic Bharat or UPI linked QR Codes, RuPay Credit & Debit Cards, Net Banking, e-Wallets, National Automated Clearing House (NACH), Online fund transfer (NEFT/ RTGS, IMPS), etc.

Commenting on this development, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO & ED, Tata Power, said, “We, at Tata Power are constantly working to harness the use of technology to improve our overall consumer service and experience. With this, Tata Power will revolutionise electricity bill payments in the city. The service will provide safer payment options to the consumers and contribute to the financial inclusion in the country. Tata Power is confident that it will prove to be a great addition to their overall stakeholder experience and we will remain committed to providing quality and uninterrupted power to our consumers.”
