Telangana to soon call bids for 140 EV charging stations – EQ Mag Pro
Hyderabad: The State government will soon call bids for setting up 140 charging stations across the State including Hyderabad. “Locations have been identified and the bids will be called in one to two months.
The charging station infrastructure will take one to two years to be set up,” the State government’s Automotive Wing Director VC Gopalakrishnan said on Thursday.
The total number of charging stations will be more than 200 including the existing 70 in Hyderabad. These will ensure that electric vehicle owners would be able to drive without range anxiety. Fuel stations, auto stands and other public places have been identified for the new charging stations.
“There are 70 charging stations in Hyderabad but not many people know about them. Most of these have been set up by public sector units. In the next phase, we will look to involving private players as well. We will soon map the locations of the charging stations and bring out the details via an app and other digital channels,” he said.
To encourage more people take up EVs, efforts are on to ensure that the IT Parks have charging infrastructure for at least 20 per cent of the parking capacity.
“Telangana has transformed into a power surplus State from a power deficit in less than five years. It is now among the top States in the country in renewable energy production. The State has set aggressive targets in clean energy, which complements the electric vehicle charging infrastructure,” Gopalkrishnan said.
The Telangana Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy 2020-30 intends to achieve substantial reduction in total cost of transportation for personal and commercial purposes. It is built on the FAME II scheme being implemented by the Union government to promote adoption and manufacture of electric vehicles.
The State already has about 20 electric vehicle manufacturers including two wheelers, three wheelers, retrofits and bus makers. “We are in talking with a few other international players for setting up their manufacturing units here,” Gopalakrishnan said.
The State is working to become a centre for research and innovation in electric vehicles, battery technologies, autonomous, and connected vehicles apart from giving a push to local manufacturing to make EVs affordable, he said.
Expo
Telangana will host a three-day EV Trade Expo at Hitex from Oct 8 to 10. It will be a platform for all EV ecosystem players like vehicle makers, buyers, charging infrastructure players. It will be a platform to bring awareness about the various subsidies and schemes available for the EV industry.
Vehicle makers, component suppliers, service providers and others will participate in the expo. It will be organised by events firm The Tradeshow Company.
