Thailand’s BGC books to buy 50-100 MW of solar in Vietnam – report
Thai glass packaging maker BG Container Glass PCL (BKK:BGC-F) is in talks to acquire between 50 MW and 100 MW of solar capacity in Vietnam, Bangkok Post reported on Thursday.
The company is looking to spend between THB 1 billion (USD 32m/EUR 28m) and THB 2 billion on the acquisitions. A deal is expected to be reached in the final quarter of 2020.
The newspaper cited chief executive Silparat Watthanakasetr as saying that BGC is looking to diversify its operations and is interested in investing in renewable energy, namely solar, wind and water resources. Countries of interest for the company are Vietnam, Japan and Taiwan, he noted.
The company already owns about 67 MW of solar capacity in Vietnam, which it acquired in 2019. BGC is looking to boost its power generation capacity to 300-400 MW by 2022.
