Top 3 electric cars from Tata to debut at 2023 Auto Expo – EQ Mag
Tata Motors recently launched the much anticipated Tiago EV to the Indian market. The company is currently strengthening its EV portfolio in India and is leading the Indian electric car market with the highest number of sales. The company currently sells Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Nexon EV Prime and the Nexon EV Max.
In this article, let’s take a look at the top 3 Tata electric cars that will be showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo.
1. Tata Punch EV
The first car on the list is the Tata Punch EV. The Tata Punch EV will be based on the ALFA platform, which underpins the Altroz hatchback. It is also expected that the Punch EV will be powered by Ziptron electric powertrain that powers up the Tiago and Tigor EV but with higher power output.
Talking about the battery, we expect Tata to offer the Punch EV with two battery pack options – medium range and long range. Tata will also make some changes to the exterior and interior bits to distinguish itself from the ICE variant. The Punch will get electric-themed styling tropes and an Electric-specific Teal Blue shade with a tri-arrow design and the ‘humanity’ line grille similar to other Tata EVs.
Moving on to the inside, the Punch EV will retain much of the look from its petrol variant. It will get a dark-toned interior with EV-themed colour detailing with electric blue accents around the instrument panel, AC vents and on the seat fabric with a tri-arrow pattern as seen on other Tata EVs.
2. Tata Curvv EV
The Tata Curvv concept was revealed in the country in April this year, based on an entirely new EV platform. The coupe-styled concept is also based on Tata’s new design philosophy called ‘Less is More’ – which could be the host for all future Tata EVs to come.
Tata had also revealed that the Curvv concept will result in a fully-electric vehicle first, followed by an ICE version later. The EV could have a range of around 400 – 500 km, however, the same is yet to be confirmed. What’s more, the Tata Curvv is capable of charging another electric vehicle.
3. Tata Avinya EV
The Tata Avinya concept EV was also revealed in 2022. The Avinya EV is based on Tata’s more advanced Gen 3 architecture. Tata Motors states that the third-generation architecture will promise a range of a minimum of 500 km and will spawn a range of production EVs based on it in different body styles.
Talking about the design, the Avinya concept looks like a blend of an MPV, a hatchback and a crossover. The EV gets LED strip on the front in the shape of a ‘T’ is particularly attractive. The LED strip acts as DRLs connecting the headlamps.
At the rear, there is a sleek LED strip running along the width of the car that also acts as the tail lamp. In terms of performance, it is yet to be seen what powertrain and battery setup will Tata Motors use in the production version. It is expected that it would come with dual electric motors or a quad motor set up as well.
