Offered in select government polytechnics near Tirunelveli, the program follows an ‘Earn While Learn’ model, blending academic study with industry training. Students will receive hands-on experience and monthly stipends, boosting employability in the clean energy sector.

In Detail : TP Solar Limited, the solar manufacturing division of Tata Power, has partnered with Guidance Tamil Nadu and the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) to launch the ‘Diploma in Renewable Energy’ course. This groundbreaking initiative aims to create a skilled workforce for India’s rapidly expanding clean energy sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Anupama Ratta, CHRO of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), Dr Darez Ahamed IAS, MD and CEO of Guidance Tamil Nadu, and J Innocent Divya IAS, Commissioner of Technical Education. The new three-year program follows an ‘Earn While Learn’ approach, offering a blend of academic learning and hands-on industry training.

The curriculum is designed to boost employability by ensuring that students gain practical, real-world experience while completing their academic requirements. Students will spend three months in the classroom and nine months in industry placements each year, providing valuable exposure to clean energy technologies. Furthermore, they will receive a monthly stipend during the course, helping support them as they build essential career skills.

The Diploma in Renewable Energy program will be introduced in the academic year 2025-26 across select Government Polytechnic Colleges in Tamil Nadu. Initially, 240 students will be enrolled in the program in districts surrounding Tirunelveli, promoting regional skill development in clean energy fields.

This collaboration marks a significant step in bridging the gap between education and industry, setting a new standard in technical education. The program is expected to contribute to India’s clean energy transition by empowering a new generation of skilled professionals.
