In Detail : Agartala: Tripura’s Rangachara village is set to become the state’s first fully solar-powered village, State Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Thursday.
Nath on Thursday paid a visit to the village along with senior officials of Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA).
He said that through this ambitious initiative, 600 families would receive electricity through solar energy.
Nestled in the South Tripura district, Rangachara has long struggled with erratic electricity supply and limited infrastructure, like many other remote areas in the region.
With this solar village project, the Tripura government, in collaboration with the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) and central agencies, is set to provide uninterrupted power to all the families in the village using decentralized solar technology.
The project is being implemented under the Solar Village Scheme and supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
In the absence of solar power, the villagers will be able to use the traditional grid power provided by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited, he added.
The project includes the installation of rooftop solar panels, battery storage systems, and energy-efficient appliances in each home.
Beyond residential use, the solar power initiative will extend to street lighting, community facilities like schools and health centers, and irrigation systems.
Solar water pumps for agriculture and solar-powered borewells are also part of the initiative to support the village’s agrarian economy.
The Power Minister said that TREDA has been assigned the task to complete the project within a stipulated time frame.
Notably, under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the state government has been actively campaigning for the installation of rooftop solar panels across the state.
