UDAIPUR: In an expansion of its solar power system, the College of Technology and Engineering (CTAE) of the Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT) campus here, an addition of 190-kWp roof top grid interactive solar power plant has been established. Separate units have been installed in the various wings of the college building recently. The total expenditure incurred in the project has been Rs 80 lakh and the officials claim it may take just 5 years for the recovery of the initial investments.

“CTAE was the first college to set up a solar plant few years ago, later other colleges followed suit. Now, as per the availability of budget and requirements, we have installed more units. The panels have been erected on roof tops of our buildings to tap the solar energy which is abundantly available in the campus for almost 10 months except during rainy season,” Dr Surendra Kothari, director, monitoring and planning told TOI.

“An 80 kWp has been set up at the administrative block, 30 kWp at the farm machinery and power engineering department, 40 kWp at the computer science and engineering wing while 40 kWp has been set up at the electronics and communication engineering department,” Ajay Sharma, dean of CTAE said.
