United PV Won the “2016 ‘Chinese Top Runner’ Outstanding Enterprises Award”
“2016 China PV Leadership Summit Forum”, organized by xinhuanet.com, was held in Beijing on 26 April, 2016. United Photovoltaics Group Limited (“United PV” or the “Company”, stock code: 00686.hk), a leading solar power plant investor and operator in China, won the “‘2016’ Chinese Top Runner Outstanding Enterprises Award” as it outperformed any other participant at the summit. United PV thus became the sole Chinese enterprise receiving such award.
On 22 April, the Paris Agreement was signed by the European Union and other 174 countries including China at the UN headquarters in New York. This Agreement identifies targets and orientations for responding to climate changes through future global cooperation, which is of great historic significance. At this summit held on 26 April, leaders, experts and scholars from Chinese government authorities and institutions, including the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Commerce, National Energy Administration, China Electricity Council, etc. discussed measures in response to future climate changes and prospect of PV industry.
During the summit, Mr. Wei Zichuan, executive vice president of xinhuanet.com, issued the “2016 ‘Chinese Top Runner’ Outstanding Enterprises Award” to Mr. Li Hong, Chief Financial Officer and Chairman of the PRC Affairs Management Committee. Also, China Merchants New Energy, the controlling shareholder of United PV, won the “2016 Top PV Enterprise Brand Value Award”; and Mr. Alan Li, Chairman of the Board and CEO of United PV, received the “2016 Most Influential PV Leaders Award”.
For awards issued at this summit, candidates were initially selected by xinhuanet.com through open vote online or by Wechat and evaluated by professional judges including scholars, media, government representatives and independent individuals. The final winner was determined after assessment level by level, with high credibility and objectivity. In August 2015, United PV obtained the right to develop 100MW above-ground power station project, Datong Shanxi. As the first demonstration project of “Chinese Top Runner Program”, it was started in November of the year and is going to be connected to the grid.
As a witness of Paris Agreement, invited by French President Francois Hollande, Mr. Alan Li attended the United Nations Conference on Climate Changes (COP21) held in the late 2015. He made a keynote speech at the conference and illustrated the practice of Chinese new energy enterprises in implementing national strategies and fulfilling corporate social responsibilities, especially the positive contributions made by China in terms of pioneering efforts, energy internet, combination of industry and finance and technological innovation, etc. in the field of new energy. Mr. Li’s speech got widely praised by representatives of all countries.
Mr. Li said that United PV’s emergence as “Top Runner” of PV technology among Chinese enterprises was not only identification of the Company’s strength in development, construction, operation and maintenance but also recognition of the Company as industry “resources integrator”. With the signing of Paris Agreement, we will undertake historical responsibilities of climate conventions; join hands together to push industry development and progress through continuous innovation, cross-industry integration and cooperation and continue to act as a “Top Runner” during world energy transformation.
