
UP Govt Signs MoU To Boost Renewable Energy Investments, Aims To Achieve 22,000 MW Solar Capacity – EQ
In Short : Uttar Pradesh has signed an MoU with Australia’s Smart Energy Council and Hinduja Group to boost renewable energy investments, aiming for 22,000 MW solar capacity by 2027. The partnership focuses on solar skill development, green hydrogen, and energy storage. This aligns with India’s target of 500 GW renewable energy by 2030 and strengthens Indo-Australian energy collaboration.
In Detail : To position Uttar Pradesh as a hub for renewable energy, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Smart Energy Council of Australia and Hinduja Group on behalf of the state government. The Chief Secretary emphasised that this MoU would be instrumental in attracting investments and fostering a skilled workforce in the renewable energy sector.
Following the signing of the MoU on Tuesday, Singh highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s goal of achieving 22,000 MW in solar capacity. This agreement is expected to support India’s aim of reaching a 500 GW renewable energy capacity by facilitating investment opportunities.
Dr Sunil K Chaddha, Senior Advisor at Hinduja Group, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to advancing renewable energy in Uttar Pradesh through its subsidiary, Hinduja Renewables. John Grimes, CEO of the Smart Energy Council, expressed confidence that the partnership would yield positive outcomes.
As part of the MoU, a solar skill development program and training modules will be introduced in the state. Additionally, technology transfer and commercialisation will be encouraged.
This collaboration is set to play a crucial role in transforming Uttar Pradesh into a renewable energy hub between 2025 and 2027. UPPCL Managing Director Pankaj Kumar, UP Renewable and EV Infrastructure Limited Managing Director Anupam Shukla, and other officials were present at the event.
