UPNEDA signs MoU with TNC India to accelerate utility-scale solar projects in Uttar Pradesh – EQ
In Short : The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TNC India, indicating a strategic collaboration to expedite utility-scale solar projects in the state. This partnership signifies Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to accelerating its solar energy initiatives. By joining forces with TNC India, UPNEDA aims to enhance the implementation of large-scale solar projects, contributing significantly to the state’s renewable energy capacity. This collaboration highlights the state’s dedication to clean energy and sustainable development, marking a significant step toward achieving its renewable energy targets.
In Detail : A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Lucknow by the Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) India to pursue targeted interventions aimed at accelerating utility-scale solar and wind energy development throughout the state. To meet India’s goals for renewable energy while minimizing negative environmental effects, TNC India will implement a SiteRight tool that has been specifically tailored for Uttar Pradesh.
“The state has committed to achieving 14,000 MW of utility-scale solar projects by 2027, and identifying land parcels for these utility-scale solar projects considering social and environmental factors is critical to achieving renewable energy targets of the state in a time-bound manner”, said Anupam Shukla, Director UPNEDA and Special Secretary, Energy Department, Govt of Uttar Pradesh. He added that this collaboration’s primary goal is to promote socially and environmentally responsible development of renewable energy projects across Uttar Pradesh, including estimating potential opportunities for floating solar and developing science-based sustainable business models for promoting decentralized solar projects in the state.
“The collaboration between TNC and UPNEDA will help prioritize lower impact land parcels for renewable energy development projects and would give the necessary impetus to meeting India’s national renewable energy targets”, said Annapurna Vancheswaran, Managing Director, TNC India. She added that this partnership aims to ensure that renewable energy projects are designed and implemented in a way that minimizes their environmental impact while still meeting the energy needs of the region.
