Using Plug&Charge To Advance EV Charging: A Webinar With Hubject & CleanTechnica
Last week CleanTechnica Director Zachary Shahan chatted with Barton Sidles, Director of Corporate and Business Development from Hubject, about ISO 15118, a communication protocol that will simplify EV charging with Plug&Charge capability and help drive EV adoption.
ISO 15118 is a robust communication protocol that facilitates communication between new electric vehicles and charging stations. One of the first features to be implemented using ISO 15118 is Plug&Charge, which simplifies the user experience, and increases security as well. Connecting to a Plug&Charge enabled charging station means no cards, no apps, and no logins.
This advanced communication protocol also paves the way for smart charging, bi-directional charging, inductive charging, and enhancements needed for autonomous driving. There are vehicle-to-grid opportunities as well as benefits for fleet management.
In the webinar, Bart did a slide presentation and shared the details about about Plug&Charge and ISO 15118, including:
- How Plug&Charge will drive EV adoption through simplified and enhanced customer experience;
- How it unlocks energy management capabilities and valuable features for automakers, utilities and other eMobility businesses;
- Why major industry players like VW, BMW, Daimler, Electrify America and Greenlots are onboard with this technology; and
- How Hubject is helping advance the technology more quickly.
Learn more about this new technology by watching the webinar below (it’s about 55 minutes). In May, we will be hosting a follow-up webinar that dives deeper into the technical aspects that make Plug&Charge so valuable and interesting. This webinar will be May 9 at 9am PST/12pm EST– sign up with advance registration here.
