Vestas Wins Order to Supply Mexico’s Biggest Wind Energy Project
Vestas Wind Systems A/S won an order for 424 megawatts of turbines from Zumia Energia for Mexico’s largest wind project.
The Reynosa wind park will be Tamaulipas, northeastern Mexico, according to an emailed statement. Each turbine will have a capacity of 3.45 megawatts. The order includes a 15-year service contract with turbine delivery planned for 2017 and commissioning in 2018.
Zumia Energia is a Mexican energy company backed by private equity firms Actis LLP and Mesoamerica.
“Tamaulipas has a leading position in the country within wind energy,” said Angelica Ruiz Celis, Vestas managing director for Mexico and northern Latin America. Mexico has a “renewable target of 35 percent of clean energy by 2024.”
Vestas has about 1.5 gigawatts of turbines installed or under construction in Mexico.
