Kolkata: West Bengal will generate at least 350 MW of solar power by 2019 as part of its efforts to source one fourth of its total power requirement from renewables.
Speaking at the Bengal Chamber’s Environment & Energy Conclave here yesterday, Minister of Power and Nonconventional Energy Sources Sovandeb Chattopadhyay said West Bengal government was trying hard to fulfill one-fourth of its energy requirements through renewable resources, a target set by the Centre for all states.
Currently India produces 330 GW of power, out of which 220 GW is thermal power, he said.
