Wind energy capacity touches 3,472.15 MW in 2015-16
Amid the focus on tapping renewable energy sources, the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association today said the total installed capacity of wind energy in the country has touched 3,472.15 MW in 2015-16 and is set to cross 4,000 MW in 2016-17.The total installed capacity for 2015-16 was 3,472.15 MW which was higher than the previous highest of 3,196.66 MW installed in 2011-12, a press release from IWTMA said.
“The industry has done very well in 2015-16. We expect the numbers to cross 4,000 MW in 2016-17,” IWTMA, Secretary General, DV Giri said.
In 2015-16, Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest installed wind capacity at 1,291.90MW, followed by Rajasthan 687.90MW.In terms of manufacturers, Spain-headquartered Gamesa recorded highest numbers at 1,003.70 MW, Suzlon 900.10 MW, Inox 790 MW and ReGen 313.50 MW, it said.
